Massachusetts Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Residency Collaborative

Massachusetts Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Residency Collaborative

The Massachusetts Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Residency Collaborative aims to increase access to high quality primary care for communities experiencing low life expectancy, in order to improve health and wellbeing.  We’re thrilled to award up to $2.1M in total funding to six organizations to develop and implement residency programs for nurse practitioners.

Primary care providers are key to keeping people healthy. They help prevent illness, manage chronic diseases, and care for patients of all ages in community health centers. Having enough primary care providers is linked to longer, healthier lives, but Massachusetts is currently facing serious challenges in primary care access.

To strengthen the primary care workforce, particularly the workforce caring for medically underserved communities, we are investing in establishing residency training programs for Family Nurse Practitioners at federally qualified health centers in Eastern Massachusetts. Nurse practitioners are a growing part of the primary care workforce, and residency programs help them gain hands-on experience, mentoring, and continued learning.
