Creating communities of opportunity for all

Across Eastern Massachusetts, life expectancy varies dramatically across communities, with a 25 year difference between the longest-lived and the shortest-lived neighborhoods. These inequities are the result of decades of disinvestment that have cut short too many lives.

We know that the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, play, and age affect health, wellness, and longevity. By concentrating our investment in communities with the lowest life expectancies, we seek to change the odds and to create communities of opportunity.

To do this, we aim to address the causes of poor health, rooted in inequity and poverty. We draw on the strength of community-based organizations and community health providers to create holistic solutions that encompass education, employment, and economic mobility; that build community power; and that ultimately democratize health.

Together, we can create communities that are vibrant, healthy, and equitable. Because we all deserve the opportunity to thrive.

Our History

In June 2022, the Atrius Health Equity Foundation was funded by the conversion of Atrius Health into a for-profit corporation. The Foundation now operates and is governed independently of Atrius Health.

Our mission builds on Atrius Health’s focus on population health by partnering with communities in need to address health inequities.
